Glutamine can elevate the levels of glutathione (the primary antioxidant in the liver) and mitigate oxidative stress-induced damage to hepatocytes. Animal studies have demonstrated its protective effects against alcohol-or drug-induced liver injury. In models of hepatic partial resection or acute injury, glutamine may support hepatocyte regeneration by activating the mTOR pathway.
